The story goes that “Old Bill”, who worked in the leather trade, made a leather pig footstool from offcuts of leather circa 1927. He continued to make leather pigs, from pigskin in those days, until his retirement around 1958 when he passed on the business to Dimitri Omersa. It was after this date that Dimitri Omersa started to add new animals to the range.

The style of the pig and size have changed over the years. Pictures of older pigs are shown in the Gallery.

In 2017, to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the pig, we added a limited edition “anniversary” pig in the style of the original. The number was limited to 90 pieces with the issue number stitched onto the underbelly.
