This cushion is made from screen printed fabric. In the screen printing, skilled craftsmen transfer a design onto screens retaining all of the original elements of the artwork. The printing process entails printing each colour separately by applying colour through separate screens resembling different parts of the final design. The screen acts as a stencil so the ink is only transferred to select areas of the fabric. Traditionally, the process was called silkscreen printing because silk was used in the process prior to the invention of polyester mesh. Some of the original block print designs have been reinterpreted into screen prints.
