Laura & Rory's Scottish Borders Country Wedding

Join us in celebrating Laura & Rory’s countryside wedding in the Scottish Highlands. Held at the bride’s parents’ home in the Scottish Borders, with a reception overlooking the River Tweed, their big day was the epitome of perfection. Bride Laura shares her bespoke dress and the details that made their wedding truly unforgettable.

We loved having our wedding list advisor to speak with on a daily basis to ask advice on products for our list. Everyone was SO friendly, knowledgeable and nothing was too much bother. We absolutely love everything on our list and we know we'll use it forever. 

We were in the foothills of the Atlas mountains for a few days of walking and relaxing pre-Christmas. We were having a drink on the terrace of our room looking down the valley when Rory proposed. It was so special to come home and have both Christmas and engagement celebrations. 

We held our wedding at my parents house in the Scottish Borders. We had our ceremony in our local village church, followed by a marquee reception in my parents garden. We wanted the day to be relaxed and surrounded by family and friends. My parents house has a beautiful setting above the river Tweed and we were hoping the weather would be kind so we could have the reception outside overlooking the river (luckily the rain did stop just as everyone arrived at church!)

Lots of flowers, white candles, hessian tablecloths. I wanted lots of soft pastel colours with pinks and blues in the church. My mother was amazing and helped me so much, putting so much thought and effort into every tiny detail. 

We chose Best Intent Marquees. They brought my vision to life for a stylish country wedding, with long trestle tables and an amazing canope of fairy lights and a starlit ceiling above our dancefloor. Relying on the Scottish weather is always a risky strategy, so we needed a marquee that we would knew would stand up to the challenge, and that would happily house everyone if it rained. 

My godmother Victoria Kostoris did all the flowers for the church and marquee, with the help of my mother and best friend Matilda Carr, who picked local flowers and arranged them in milk bottles. I wanted a soft blousy look with flowers picked from the garden. We had lots of sweet peas which smelt amazing.  The colours in the tent were pinks, white and greens and in the church it was all blue and white.

I had a bespoke dress and lace edged veil made by Venetia Flint which I accessorised with Manolo Blahnik shoes, diamond earrings borrowed from Jessica McCormack and a family tiara.
